A couple in Aquarium Crescent, Rhyl reported a trapped cat to the RSPCA national call centre. An animal collection officer attended but was unable to locate the cat. The next day an Inspector attended and despite several hours of searching still could not locate the cat.
The couple then contacted the local branch of the RSPCA, Clwyd and Colwyn, to see if they could help.
The branch sent two trustees to the site and after several hours searching established that the cat was trapped in the roof void of an extension to a property in John Street, Rhyl and were able to get some food and water to the cat.
A neighbour was able to provide the telephone number of the landlord who immediately gave permission for bricks to be removed to release the cat.
Whilst the cat was no longer trapped it would still not come to anyone, so the next day the branch placed a cat trap on site, monitored by the couple that had originally reported that the cat was trapped.
Within hours the cat was trapped and a trustee of the branch took it to a local vet and then to a local cattery.
The cat, a black and white female, has been named Lucky for obvious reasons. She has now been neutered, wormed, etc. at the branch’s expense.
Whilst Lucky seems to be a feral cat (ie wild) it is possible that she might belong to someone. She does not appear to be micro-chipped but because she is difficult to handle no-one can be certain.
